42068 Lego Technic Airport Rescue Vehicle Review: How to learn by creative play

One thing I love with Technic Lego® is that they offer a bigger challenge for my kids to finish the complete build of the different sets, compared to the original build sets. I also think that the best part is the reproduction of the advanced, realistic technical functions of the beams and plates, gears, axles, connectors and special parts, wheels and tires and so on. I love the idea to let kids learn through play since I believe that is the best way to explore new things and find new fields of interest.

Pros with letting your kids play with Lego® Technic

  1. It is an excellent way for kids to learn to think in three dimensions by creative play.
  2. Kids learn how to use instructions. If you skip something, then the result will not be as expected. It gives the builder almost instant feedback.
  3. It is one fantastic way to develop your kids’ skills when it comes to problem-solving, organization, and planning by construction.
  4. It is a tool that is useful to enhance their communication and critical thinking.
  5. It boosts kids creativity.
  6. Kids motor development gets some practice.
  7. It is a good tool to practice patience. If they give up, then they will not finish, and they will not have a fully functional toy.
  8. LEGO® Technic toys are compatible with all LEGO® construction sets for creative building.

Cons of letting your kids play with Lego® Technic

  1. It is not immediately intuitive, and require the builder to think several steps ahead. (A lot of parental support is required in the beginning to help your kid to get started in a good way, which is not necessarily a bad thing).
  2. The sets are not very cheap. (Even though I say, you get what you pay for, a good quality toy).
  3. Your kids will likely lose their patience.
  4. A bazillion little pieces everywhere to keep track of. (A good opportunity for parents to teach kids how to organize things to make it easier. As an example, all the parts can be sorted by color).
  5. There will likely be countless completed projects, decorating every level surface in your home.

Wow. Lego has come a long ways since I was a kid. I could see this as being a fun and challenging building/assembling toy for children and their parents, guardians, or older siblings.
